Are 2022 Quarters Worth Money? What Each One Is Really Worth

Very few 2022 quarters are worth more than face value. A circulated 2022 quarter from change is worth 25 cents, and an uncirculated one from a Mint roll trades for about one to two dollars. The 2022 quarters worth money are a handful of certified mint errors, top-grade slabbed coins and the collector-only silver proofs.
Every quarter struck for circulation in 2022 is one of five American Women Quarters, the first year of the program. That makes the year easy to cover completely: five designs, two circulation mints, three collector versions, and two documented off-metal errors.
The 2022 quarters list, with mintages
| # | Honoree | Released | Philadelphia (P) | Denver (D) | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Maya Angelou | 10 January 2022 | 237,600,000 | 258,200,000 | 495,800,000 |
| 2 | Dr. Sally Ride | 21 March 2022 | 275,200,000 | 278,000,000 | 553,200,000 |
| 3 | Wilma Mankiller | 6 June 2022 | 310,000,000 | 297,400,000 | 607,400,000 |
| 4 | Nina Otero-Warren | 15 August 2022 | 225,000,000 | 219,200,000 | 444,200,000 |
| 5 | Anna May Wong | 24 October 2022 | 226,800,000 | 240,800,000 | 467,600,000 |
| 2022 total | 1,274,600,000 | 1,293,600,000 | 2,568,200,000 |
The lowest mintage of the year is the Nina Otero-Warren quarter at 444,200,000, and the scarcest single issue is the 2022-D Otero-Warren at 219,200,000. Neither is scarce in any way that affects price. The 2022 coins make up 32 percent of the program's 8,024,800,000 circulation strikes, and our 2022 American Women Quarters page has the design notes for all five.
How much is a 2022 P quarter worth?
The mint mark sits on the obverse, to the right of Washington's neck and below the date. P means Philadelphia and D means Denver, and neither is worth more than the other. Here is what the realistic range looks like for any 2022 P or D quarter:
| Condition | What it is worth |
|---|---|
| Circulated, from change | 25 cents |
| Uncirculated, raw, from a Mint roll or bag | About $1 to $2 |
| Certified MS65 to MS67 | Documented sales from about $2.25 upward |
| Certified MS68 | Documented sales up to about $86 |
| Authenticated off-metal error | One documented sale: $10,181 |
Most of the dollar or two for an uncirculated coin is handling and postage. The certified figures are realized sales, not price-guide numbers, and the gap between those two can be wide. Our American Women Quarters value guide explains where each figure comes from.
Mintage does not change this. Rarity only creates value when demand outruns supply, and even the lowest 2022 figure is hundreds of millions of coins for a collector base that is a tiny fraction of that. A 2022 quarter that has spent four years in tills and vending machines also carries wear, which rules out the condition premiums in the lower rows of the table.
Grading is where people lose money. A modern quarter in a slab is worth something only when the grade is near the top of the population, and the grading fee alone often exceeds what an MS65 sells for.
Rare 2022 quarters worth money: the documented errors
Out of more than 8 billion American Women Quarters, two off-metal strikes are publicly documented, and both are 2022 coins.
2022-P Dr. Sally Ride on a nickel planchet
A 2022-P Sally Ride quarter was struck on a Jefferson nickel planchet, which is 5.00 g and 21.21 mm instead of 5.670 g and 24.26 mm. The small blank cut off parts of LIBERTY, QUARTER DOLLAR and the honoree's name. Graded NGC MS 67 and believed unique, it realized $10,181 at GreatCollections on 30 April 2023, buyer's premium included. That is the highest documented sale in the whole program.
2022 Wilma Mankiller errors
The Wilma Mankiller quarter has more documented errors than any other coin in the series. A 2022-D struck on a five-cent planchet, graded PCGS MS64, was reported by Mike Byers in CoinWeek on 23 June 2026 as unique and only the second off-metal error known in the program. No sale price has been published. Two more Mankiller coins are certified:
- 2022-D with the obverse clad layer missing, 4.8 g, NGC MS-62, certificate 6978464-003.
- 2022-P with a retained die break on the obverse, NGC MS-63, certificate 6979946-001.
Each is a single certified coin, not a variety that repeats across thousands of pieces. An ordinary Mankiller from change is not an error, however it looks under a loupe. The full list, and nine tests that separate an error from damage, are on our American Women Quarters errors page.
Why the "$10,000 2022 quarter" claims are false
Videos and listings regularly attach a $10,000 value to the Maya Angelou quarter, or to 2022 quarters in general. The only sale behind that number is the unique Sally Ride nickel-planchet error above. It has been copied onto nearly every coin in the series since.

The Maya Angelou quarter had 495,800,000 struck for circulation. Other names that circulate online, such as an "upside down" VOTO PARA LA MUJER on the Otero-Warren coin, describe the normal design. A useful test: every valuable 2022 quarter is a coin you cannot find in your pocket. The errors are unique, the high grades are already in slabs, and the silver proofs were never released.
2022 S quarters, proofs and silver proof sets
San Francisco struck all five designs for collectors only, in three forms. None of them went into circulation.
- 2022-S uncirculated: sold only in three-roll sets of 40 P, 40 D and 40 S coins at $54 per design. The Mint sold P and D in 100-coin bags at $40 and in two-roll sets at $36. The Mint's production data covers only P and D, but reported 2022-S uncirculated figures, worked out from three-roll set sales, run from 303,520 to 305,560 per design, the lowest of any uncirculated coins in the program.
- Clad proof: the 2022 American Women Quarters Proof Set, five proofs at $21.00, on sale 8 March 2022.
- Silver proof: five .999 fine silver proofs at $73.00, on sale 29 March 2022, one set per household.
| 2022 set | Issue price | Planned maximum | Reported sales |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proof Set (five clad, S) | $21.00 | 42,900 | 42,821 |
| Silver Proof Set (five .999 silver, S) | $73.00 | 58,212 | 57,768 |
The planned maximums are from Coin World, which reported the silver set sold out on 29 March 2022, its first day. Sales are from the CoinNews sales report of 21 October 2026. The silver set has a metal floor that moves with the silver price, which makes it the only 2022 product with built-in value beyond collector demand. More detail is on our silver proof set page.
Other places 2022 quarters turn up
The five 2022 designs were also included in the 2022 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set, sold at $25.25 from July 2022 as two cards of ten coins, one card from Philadelphia and one from Denver. Quarters from these sets are ordinary uncirculated P and D strikes. Out of the packaging they are worth the same as roll coins, and the set as a whole sells on its own terms.
Coin roll hunting is the other source. A $10 bank roll holds 40 quarters, and 2022 coins are now thoroughly mixed with the 1999 to 2021 state, territory and park designs and the later women quarters. Finding all five 2022 designs in change takes patience rather than luck, since none is scarce.
What to do with a 2022 quarter you think is special
Weigh it first. A correct quarter is 5.670 g. A coin that is noticeably lighter and smaller, near 5.00 g, is worth having authenticated by PCGS or NGC. A coin with correct weight and a strange-looking detail is almost always die wear, machine doubling or post-mint damage, and a grading fee will cost more than the coin is worth.
If you simply want a nice set of the five, buy uncirculated coins for a dollar or two each rather than paying for "errors" in raw form. Then compare with the newer designs on our post about the America 250 quarters of 2026.
Frequently asked questions
- Are any 2022 quarters rare?
- Not the regular coins. The lowest 2022 mintage, the Nina Otero-Warren quarter, is 444,200,000. The rare 2022 quarters are individual errors: a unique 2022-P Sally Ride and a unique 2022-D Wilma Mankiller, each struck on a nickel planchet, plus a few other certified Mankiller errors.
- Is there a 2022 W quarter?
- No. The 2022 quarters were struck at Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D) for circulation and at San Francisco (S) for collectors. No West Point (W) American Women Quarter was ever issued. The W quarters people remember are from 2019 and 2020, a different program.
- What is a 2022 S quarter worth?
- A 2022-S quarter came only from collector products: three-roll sets, clad proof sets and silver proof sets. It cannot be found in change. About 303,500 to 305,600 were reported per design, but this site quotes only documented sale prices, so check realized auction results for the exact coin and grade.
- Is the 2022 Maya Angelou quarter worth 10,000 dollars?
- No. 495,800,000 Angelou quarters were struck for circulation, and a circulated one is worth 25 cents. The $10,181 figure belongs to a unique 2022-P Sally Ride quarter struck on a nickel planchet, sold at GreatCollections on 30 April 2023.
- How do I check if my 2022 quarter is an error?
- Weigh it on a gram scale. A normal quarter is 5.670 g and 24.26 mm. A nickel-planchet strike is about 5.00 g and visibly smaller. Odd marks on a coin of normal weight are usually die wear or damage, not an error worth grading.
