American Women Quarters

What Is an American Women Quarter Worth?

Twenty-five cents. If you found it in change, in a till, in a jar or in a roll from the bank, it is worth face value. That is true of all 20 designs, in every year, from both mints, with no exceptions.

That is the whole answer for almost every coin anyone reading this page is holding. What follows is the reasoning, and the four situations where an American Women Quarter is genuinely worth more than a quarter.

Why circulated examples are worth face value

8,024,800,000 of these were struck for circulation. The smallest mintage in the series is 118,800,000. There is no shortage of any design, there will not be one in our lifetimes, and a coin that has been in circulation has wear that rules out the condition premiums described below.

What you can actually get

Found in change25 cents
Uncirculated, raw, from a Mint roll or bag$1 to $2, most of which is handling and postage
Certified mint state (MS65 to MS67)Documented realized sales from about $2.25 upward
Certified top grade (MS68)Documented realized sales up to about $86
Clad proof, PF69 DCAMUsually less than the grading fee paid to get it slabbed
Silver proofA floor set by the silver content, plus a modest collector premium

The spread between those certified figures and the numbers in published price guides is wide. Price guides list some of these grades in the hundreds of dollars. Actual auction results for the same grades run from a couple of dollars to under a hundred. When the two disagree, the realized sale is the real number.

The four things that create real value in this series

  1. A major mint error authenticated by a grading service. Two off-metal strikes are known in the entire program, out of 8.02 billion coins. A 2022-P Dr. Sally Ride quarter struck on a Jefferson nickel planchet, graded NGC MS 67, sold for $10,181 through GreatCollections on 30 April 2023. That is the highest documented sale in the series, and it is a unique coin.
  2. A recognized die variety. The 2024-P Dr. Mary Edwards Walker Doubled Die Reverse is the only fully cataloged doubled die in the program. Raw examples sold in the $75 to $205 range at discovery.
  3. Top-of-population condition in a certified holder. An MS68 example of a common design is worth something because almost none grade that high, not because the coin is scarce.
  4. Silver content. A .999 fine silver proof has a metal floor that moves with the silver price. This is the only one of the four that applies to a coin you can simply buy.

The test that saves people money

Every genuinely valuable American Women Quarter is a coin you cannot find in circulation. The off-metal errors are unique. The silver proofs were sold in sets and never released into change. The top-pop coins are in slabs. If a page tells you the valuable one is the coin you might already have in your pocket, it is selling you something.

How this page determines value

Figures here come from realized auction results at major houses, not from asking prices. That distinction matters in this series specifically. The largest coin price database ingests eBay listings, including unsold Buy It Now listings, and publishes them alongside genuine auction results. It shows a 2022-S Nina Otero-Warren quarter at $3,695 and, in the same database, a 2022-P Otero-Warren in MS68 at $25.

A useful tell: prices ending in .95 or .99 are retail asking prices, not competitive results. Nobody bids $2,499.95.

Values as of October 2026. Values change, and depend on condition, certification, rarity and demand.
